Guido Palau says that the much-lauded two-tone hairstyles he created for the Prada autumn/winter 2012-13 show were a “spur of the moment” backstage idea.
“I was looking at the make-up that Pat McGrath was doing and thinking, ‘what could I do to complement it?'” said the hair stylist and Redken creative consultant. “So I just looked in my extensions bag and starting pulling out long wefts of colour. I am really inspired by street style so I think that, in my subconscious, I must have seen that out on the streets somewhere and then decided that was the right moment to do it.”
Palau created the style in different colourways for the catwalk, and such was its popularity that it was recreated for the brand’s autumn/winter 2012-13 advertising campaign.
“Sometimes the most exciting ideas are those that come to you in the spur of the moment,” he told us. “There are no rules in beauty anymore, so you can really push the boat out. It’s really exciting.”
